Understanding symptoms
Enlarged veins may cause aching, heaviness, swelling or skin changes. Treatment depends on symptoms and venous function as well as appearance.
Assessment and options
Duplex ultrasound identifies reflux. Options may include endovenous laser, radiofrequency, VenaSeal adhesive closure, sclerotherapy, miniphlebectomy or surgery. Benefits, risks and alternatives are discussed individually.
Follow-up
Return to work and exercise varies by procedure. Walking, compression and review appointments are planned individually. Bruising, pigmentation or inflammation can occur; more serious complications are less common.
Does every vein need a procedure?
No. The cause, symptom severity and suitability for intervention guide the decision. Sudden swelling in one leg or bleeding from a vein requires urgent assessment.
This is general information. Investigations and treatment require individual assessment. Do not wait for a routine booking if symptoms are sudden or severe.
