How does it work?
A substance is injected into the target vein to help close it. Liquid or foam may be used, with ultrasound guidance when needed for accurate placement.
Before a session
The clinician reviews medicines, allergies, clot history and pregnancy, then assesses suitability and alternatives. Do not stop prescribed medication without instructions.
Aftercare and risks
Multiple sessions and individual movement or compression advice may be needed. Possible effects include bruising, pigmentation and inflammation; allergic reactions, clots and skin injury are less common. Contact the team about unexpected symptoms.
This is general information. Investigations and treatment require individual assessment. Do not wait for a routine booking if symptoms are sudden or severe.
