When is it considered?
Chronic pelvic pain or heaviness may relate to enlarged veins and worsen with standing. Pelvic pain has many other causes; enlarged veins alone do not establish the cause.
Assessment and treatment
History, examination and appropriate imaging guide assessment. If veins explain the symptoms, embolisation of selected veins may be considered. Not everyone needs intervention; assessment with other specialties may be needed.
Follow-up and questions
Bleeding, infection, allergic reactions, procedure-specific risks, alternatives and recovery are discussed. Improvement may be gradual and complete pain relief cannot be guaranteed.
This is general information. Investigations and treatment require individual assessment. Do not wait for a routine booking if symptoms are sudden or severe.
